Wood Street taxi rank to be temporarily relocatedWednesday, May 6, 2015

A taxi rank in the City Centre is on the move.

The rank, currently located outside helloworld Mackay, will be temporarily moved next week to the river end of Wood Street.

The temporary change is due to stage three of the City Centre Revitalisation works.

City Centre Revitalisation Project Manager Jim Carless said the temporary site was chosen following consultation with Mackay Taxis.

“The new taxi rank will be setup in front of the former Retravision building, opposite the heritage-listed Pioneer Shire Council building,” he said.

The changes will take effect from Monday, May 11, and are expected to remain in place for about three months.

Mr Carless said the project team had engaged with Mackay Police, the City Safe Advisory Committee and Mackay Street Chaplaincy regarding the change.

“Taxis are an important part of public transport and the new site is located in a visible and well-lit area of the City Centre.”

Mackay Taxi will continue to service their rank in Victoria Street in front of Tooma’s Dry Cleaning and Caneland Central.

Once stage three of the project from Hugh Reilly to the Mackay Kebab House is complete, the taxi rank will return to its original location outside helloworld Mackay.
