Hitch a free bus ride to Twilight City street partyWednesday, August 19, 2015
Residents will be able to hitch a free bus ride to and from the Twilight City – Beyond Your Imagination Street Party in the City Centre later this month.
Organisers of the August 29 event, which follows last year’s inaugural Twilight City – Imagine More Street Party, have just announced the free bus services.
“We’ve entered into a partnership with Mackay Transit Coaches and the City Centre Taskforce with the support of council,” said Tourism and Economic Development portfolio councillor Greg Martin.
“The free services will include pick-up points from nine key locations across the region,” said Cr Martin, who is also chair of Mackay City Centre Taskforce.
“Families can be dropped off right at the doorstep of the event,” he said.
“We’re encouraging people to relax and come in on a coach and we’ll also run services home that night.”
Cr Martin said the return journeys would begin from 9pm after a major prize draw and following the completion of the children’s movie Madagascar and fireworks.
“Last year we had about 10,000 people into the City Centre for the street party for Twilight City,” he said.
“We’re expecting between 10,000 and 15,000 this year, so wanted to make the event as accessible as possible.
“Most of the bus services are also accessible for wheelchairs and prams.”
Twilight City – Beyond Your Imagination will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 4pm to 10pm.
The free bus services to the event will begin in the afternoon on nine routes.
The routes include East Mackay, West Mackay/Glenella, South Mackay, Slade Point/marina, Andergrove, Beaconsfield, Northern Beaches, Marian/Walkerston and Sarina.
There will be four services on seven of the routes and two services on the Marian/Walkerston and Sarina routes.
A full list of times for the bus services is available to download here.

“Mackay Transit Coaches would like to thank Translink for the fleet support to carry out the services for the event,” said Mackay Transit Coaches sales manager Jess McEwan.
