Flavours competition scored Adele a taste of AsiaFriday, February 19, 2016

Time is running out to enter the popular 2016 Flavours of the World competition.

Back by popular demand, the City Centre competition is in its final week, with the major prize being an eight-day APT river cruise to Lower Mekong for two, valued at $11,500.

Last year’s winner Adele Oliver ate lunch every day at Cool Mango and told the shop owner, Jill, with great certainty, that she would win the 2015 Flavours of the World holiday.

“At the time it was wishful thinking on my part, but you should have seen the look on her face the day I told her I’d actually won it,” she said.

Adele remembers vividly the moment they announced she had won a holiday to Vietnam and Cambodia, courtesy of Insider Journeys and helloworld.

“I’d had the worst year of luck – everything that could go wrong did. So, when I won this prize I literally cried – nothing like this had ever happen to me,” she said.

And so it was that Adele and her partner Michael Robson were able to celebrate her 25th birthday in July last year with her first overseas trip.

“It was both truly an experience of a lifetime and a complete culture shock, and I loved every minute of it.”

Adele is encouraging all her Mackay friends and family to enter this year’s Flavours of the World competition.

“You never think it’s going to happen to you, but it won’t if you don’t try – so give it a go,” she urged.

This year’s competition entitles shoppers who spend a minimum of $25 at participating city eateries – including pubs, cafes and restaurants – to receive a stamp in their special Flavours of the World My City Centre Passport.

Those who collect four stamps – and then a fifth by attending the helloworld Travel Expo at the MECC this Saturday (February 20) – can enter the competition.

The prize will be drawn at the Travel Expo at 2.30pm and entrants must be present to win.

Passports are available at participating Mackay City Centre eateries and council’s Gordon Street administration building.

The 2016 Flavours of the World campaign is a joint initiative supported by helloworld, APT, Mackay Airport, Mackay City Centre businesses and the City Centre Taskforce.
