Marina 3

Get a shoe in at charity eventFriday, February 26, 2016

If there’s one good reason to dust off your joggers – it’s for charity.

The 2016 BMA Mackay Marina Run is back on June 5 and, in the lead-up to the event, runners are encouraged to take part in the warm-up Twilight 5km Marina Run launch on Friday, March 4.

There’ll be hundreds of dollars worth of prizes on offer for the event, which kicks off and finishes at Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas’ Wood Street car park

Adults are $10, school students $5 and children under five are free. Registration is from 5pm with a 6pm start.

All proceeds of both events will go to the Leukaemia Foundation.

Mackay Regional Council’s Economic Development manager Debra Howe said City Centre cash would be up for grabs at the warm-up run.

She said participants would be encouraged to take photos of themselves in picture frames at the run.

“Simply join the run, take some pics of yourself and fellow joggers in the picture frame and post them on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #mmr2016MackayPride, and you’ll go in the draw to win one of five $100 City Centre cash vouchers.

“This is a great opportunity to stretch your legs and warm up for the Marina Run, raise money for a worthy charity and bring even more excitement to the city.”

Winners of the City Centre cash vouchers will be announced on March 21.

On completion of the run, participants will also receive a promotional bag of goodies.

City business owners keen to offer specials, such as two-for-one or buy-one-get-one-free vouchers, for these bags are encouraged to email council’s City Centre coordinator Nadine Connolly at citycentre@mackay.qld.gov.au to arrange pick-up.
