QLD DAY Mackay Artwork UnveiledWednesday, June 6, 2018

A project that has been long in the making has been unveiled today at the Greater Whitsunday Farmers Market.  The 15m QLD DAY Mackay Artwork, could  been seen by the community for the first time today and there were nothing but positive comments.

Over the past few weeks local artists from BASEarts Mackay have been holding a series of workshops with local community groups, discussing the topic of what it means to be a Queenslander.  The aim has been to reflect on their daily lives in Mackay to gain a greater understanding of how they, and Mackay, fit into the bigger picture of Queensland.  A diverse range of community groups, including those representing minority groups, have been involved.

Each group was assigned a letter spelling out “QLD DAY MACKAY” and, with the assistance of BASEarts Mackay, have created amazing images.

Then with the help of Visual Graphics Mackay the letters were then printed and cut out of ply wood.

If you would like a closer look at the artwork it will be showcased once again at the Celebrate QLD Day, Mackay Style special Twilight River St Market Firday Night.
