Work begins on new City Centre roundaboutMonday, November 5, 2018

Driving in the City Centre is set to get easier.

Council has started construction of a roundabout at the Victoria and Peel streets intersection.

The roundabout will allow drivers to negotiate the intersection far more easily and safer and is expected to reduce the incidence of traffic crashes in this area.

Construction will be completed by mid-December, weather permitting.

During construction, the roads will remain open to traffic throughout the day to reduce any impact on local businesses.

Construction activities requiring road closures will be completed at night.

Victoria Street will be closed from Mangrove Road to Wellington Street between 9pm and 5am.

Signage and traffic diversions will be in place.

Drivers are asked to obey any necessary signs and directions of traffic controllers to ensure the safety of all road users during construction.
