Late Night Trading comes to MackayFriday, August 31, 2018
Mackay City Centre is supporting late night trading on Fridays during the monthly River Street Twilight Markets. The market, which is held at Bluewater Quay and run by the Greater Whitsunday Farmers Network, is looking for City Centre traders to come on board. Christine Wilson, marketing manager of the market, wants to hear from City traders who are planning to open or considering opening late on the same night as River Street Twilight Market. “I would like businesses to contact me so we can talk about how the Great Whitsundays Farmers Network can promote their late-night opening to our market visitors,” she said. There are a number of ways in which the Twilight Market can share information about late opening; one of which is by displaying signage on the Sydney Street end of the River Street Twilight Market site during the monthly Friday Market. Another opportunity for Mackay City Centre is to consider the production of a late-night trade map highlighting each business open.
Any business interested in late night opening on a Friday during Twilight Market can contact Christine (Tuesday & Thursday) 9am to 5pm on 0498 717 941. Alternatively, email your details to firstname.lastname@example.org
The River Street Twilight Markets incorporate local growers, makers and bakers from the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday region and is an extension of the Wednesday Greater Whitsunday Farmers’ Market (GWFM). The community event provides additional opportunity for our greater community to meet, taste and buy local produce and product in different forms. We have been very passionate about how we can be inclusive to the community through different groups by value adding stalls in areas of health, wellbeing, natural and sustainable product lines, as well as adding music, entertainment, dance and play activities for all to enjoy. The event has highlighted our Mackay City Centre area and the River precinct.
A previous activation which was highly successful in linking the City Centre and the Markets was the Shiralee Horse & Carriage, which took market visitors into the City Centre main streets. As this service is no longer available, the Greater Whitsunday Food Network are keen to hear from local business operators who may have ideas or contacts who could provide such a service or engage a business, such as the Airlie Tuk Tuk Bikes or a similar business. We can see lots of opportunities for having such a service on offer. By having a unique way of connecting the public to the market, bars and restaurants and late-night traders around the City would be a great attraction for Mackay.
