Mackay City Centre has 2,500 free, timed on-street car parking available for short-term use from 30 minutes to 3 hours.
There is also 62 parking spaces at the rear of the Dudley Denny City Library. These are also free, and have a limit of 3 hours.
For longer term parking, off-street parking is available at the following council car parks:
- Corner of Gordon and Gregory streets
- Corner of River and Gregory streets
- Corner of Brisbane and River streets
- Corner of Gordon and Wood streets
Paid parking applies Monday to Friday at these locations, and parking is free on weekends. Parking is 70c per hour, and a maximum of $5 per day. There is a maximum 4 hour limit in the carpark on the corner of Gordon and Wood Streets, and there are no limits on all of the other carparks.
Payment for parking in council’s off-street carparks is made through PayStay. PayStay is an easy to use pay-by-phone parking system that is suitable for individual users as well as corporate users and fleet managers. There are four simple options you can use to pay for parking, including the mobile phone app, through the PayStay website, SMS or phone call.
Coin-operated machines are also located in the Gordon/Gregory Street carpark and the Gregory/Wood Street carpark. The machines allow users to pay for parking in these carparks without the need to use the PayStay system.

Did you know?? You can use your Australian permit to park for free at any on-street parking in local government metered and regulated parking areas:
- Up to 30 minutes – when the time limit shown on a sign is less than 30 minutes
- For an unlimited time – when the time limit shown on a sign is 30 or more
- In parking bays displaying the international symbol of access for on and off-street parking bays.

With 24-hour secure bicycling facilities at Memorial Swim Centre (Milton Street) and Bluewater Quay (River Street) and plenty of bike racks, you can cycle the city with ease.
Secure bicycle parking spaces offer lockers to store a helmet, clothes and personal items and showers are available.
Both secure facilities require swipe card access. To receive a card, simply sign up at Mackay Regional Council’s Client Service Centre in Gordon Street and pay a $50 refundable deposit. Your refund will be processed within 10 working days when your card is returned.
